Who we are
We are a team of farmers and ranchers obsessed with re-introducing cattle back into our farming practices on the Palouse. While conventional farming and ranching has a crucial role in feeding the world, we decided to take a different approach.
We source our cattle in the fall from a select few local ranchers. Then we feed them hay on pasture over the winter before being moved to that year’s organic cover crop field in the spring.
Growing organic crops is not easy, but a symbiotic relationship exists when cattle are utilized. The cattle recycle nutrients, control weeds, increase soil health and sequester carbon. The organic fields (planted into a cover crop mix) offer a highly nutritious diet and open space for the cattle.
The cattle that are selected then get placed onto a diet of high quality Palouse hay and ground garbanzo beans from our farm. We do not rush this stage, but let the cattle mature to the proper size at a reasonable rate to ensure beef flavor is not compromised.
